The all-new Michelin Pilot Sport 4 S, an ultra-high-performance summer tire launched back in January at the 2017 North American International Auto Show in Detroit, is the successor to the popular and highly regarded Michelin Pilot Super Sport, combining the best attributes of the latter with those of the Pilot Sport Cup 2.
Designed for sports cars and other performance vehicles, the Michelin Pilot Sport 4 S weds sportiness and safety, with a promise to deliver exceptional steering precision, remarkable directional stability, and maximum grip in any kind of weather conditions.
In fact, Michelin is proud to point out that third-party testing carried out on German tracks ranked the Pilot Sport 4 S first ahead of five other ultra-high-performance tires in terms of dry-surface and wet-surface braking. In dry conditions it also registered the fastest lap times.
These results are not surprising given that the Michelin Pilot Sport 4 S makes use of sophisticated materials and construction methods developed notably in the World Endurance Championship, Formula E racing, and the World Rally Championship. Additionally, the tire’s sidewalls were sculpted to help prevent contact between the rim and the curb.
The Michelin Pilot Sport 4 S will be available in more than 60 different sizes, with a diameter ranging from 18"-20" and a width ranging from 225mm-345mm. It boasts a Y speed rating (300 km/h), the highest possible rank for tires, and comes with a 50,000km warranty.
