GM of Canada has priced the LS trim of the Oshawa-built 2000 Chevrolet Monte Carlo two-door coupe at $25,895 and the upscale SS trim at $28,595.

The LS version gets the 3.4-litre V-6 that produces 180 horsepower at 5200 rpm and 205 pound-feet of torque at 4000 rpm.

The SS version gets the 3.8-litre V-6 that produces 200 horsepower at 5200 rpm and 225 pound-feet of torque at 4000 rpm.

Both engines are attached to the same electronically-controlled 4-speed automatic transmission.

As well as getting the larger engine, the SS model gets some features that aren't standard on the LS model, including air conditioning, remote keyless entry, a power driver's seat, a cargo net and illuminated visor mirrors.

All of those features are however available in the LS model's preferred equipment package, which lists for $1,325.

The preferred equipment package for the SS lists for $580 and includes power outside mirrors, a self-dimming inside mirror with reading lamps, and a driver information and convenience system with theft-deterrence, an outside temperature gauge, a universal garage door opener, a compass, and a trip computer.
