When GM gets around to giving final approval to the Cadillac Evoq luxury roadster, it will likely do so in a way that will also mean a completely revised Chevrolet Corvette sooner than planned.

According to sources inside Cadillac, GM has decided that if the 2-seat Evoq is okayed, it will be designed to use the same platform that will service the next Corvette (the C6 version) and be built at that car's factory in Bowling Green, Kentucky.

In order to get the Evoq out as soon as Cadillac wants it, the Corvette platform will undergo faster development than is currently on the schedule, meaning it will be out a year earlier. That could mean the C6 will be a 2004 model year car, as will the Evoq.If you're keeping track, previous GM plans had called for the Evoq to use the rear-drive Sigma platform that will provide the superstructure for most of the other future Cadillacs.

Since it's changed once that GM admits, it could of course change again, so don't take any of this to the bank.
