American journalists had a chance to try out Mercedes-Benz's new SUV last week in Virginia.

The 2013 version of the car looks younger than ever before: some more aggressive outside styling, a rearranged cabin and punchier driving dynamics.

Also smaller and lighter than the previous generation, the new GLK comes with a 3.5L V6 putting out 302 horsepower; start/stop technology reducing fuel consumption and carbon dioxide emissions, and a 7-speed gearbox.

A 4-cylinder diesel engine is scheduled to arrive early in 2013.

Furthermore, as standard equipment, the GLK features Attention Assist, a system sensing through the steering-wheel when the driver is falling asleep. It trigers an audible warning and lights up a warning coffee cup on the dash, hinting the drive to a break.

Mercedes-Benz has yet to announce any price or launch date for Canada.
