Some of you are old enough to remember Steven Spielberg's first and highly suspenseful movie, Duel, released in 1971. It featured a terrified motorist stalked on a remote and lonely road by the mostly unseen driver of a mysterious tanker truck.

Countless vehicles have played leading roles in Hollywood classics ever since. I vividly recall the 1958 Plymouth Fury nicknamed “Christine” in the eponymous movie directed by John Carpenter in 1983. This possessed, violence-fuelled automobile had a mind of its own, and it came straight from the imagination of one of the most prolific authors of all time, Stephen King.

Cars aren't just our wheels for the daily life; they're part of our fantasies, projects, and entertainment. For some, they really are mere appliances, but for many they represent a social status and a lifestyle.
